Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe is a German Christian non-governmental organisation, dedicated to excellence in the field of first aid, ambulance service, social service programmes and other projects in the medical and social field. The Headquarters is based in Berlin, Germany.

Johanniter International Assistance is the department for humanitarian aid, development co-operation and emergency assistance, implementing and supporting mostly health projects worldwide.

Sukkur (province Sindh), with frequent travel to project sites

Project Description
The monsoon induced flooding which occurred in July/ August 2010 has been the most devastating natural disaster since 1929 in Pakistan’s history. The number of people affected by the floods reached almost 20 million people in 78 districts across the country. The disaster caused billions of dollars in losses and damages to infrastructure, agriculture and livestock. More than 1.9 million houses have been damaged or destroyed. Therefore Johanniter supports vulnerable people by providing emergency and primary health care, nutrition, shelter & NFIs in most affected regions of Khyber Pakthunkhwa (KPK), Baluchistan and Sindh.

Job Description
The nutrition co-ordinator will be responsible for supervising the current nutrition activities in Sindh from Johanniter Provincial Office Sukkur. Frequent travelling to the areas of operations will be required.
reporting to: Head of Provincial Office in Sukkur; HQ (Berlin)
working with: Team of national staff and local authorities

Job Responsibilitiesc
oordinate and supervise all nutrition related project activities (including project administration, procurement and maintenance of nutritional supplies and equipment from UNICEF and WFP, as well as inventory & quality control)
ensure the effective implementation of nutrition activities in all operational provinces, including community screening, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), and treatment of acute malnutrition cases in CMAM program
provide supportive guidance to all nutrition team members at country office, provincial and district level
project acquisition, planning, monitoring & evaluation
guarantee that nutrition programs are in compliance with national and international guidelines and objectives will be achieved
recognise further needs and undertake assessments as necessary to determine local demand on nutrition related projects/ follow ups
recruit and supervise nutrition staff in cooperation with Country Director and Head of Provincial Office (HoPO) and strengthen the capacity of community mobilizer to enable them to complete community nutrition education sessions in time
provide and assist trainings for Johanniter and MoH staff
maintain regular communication with country office, HoPO, project staff and HQ
data collection and data preparation: Ensure the effective use of nutrition related data collection tools through support and training
supervise budget spending of respective projects and ensure that the budgets are properly and timely utilized
Liaise closely with health teams in the field and ensure an integrated nutrition approach across sectors
prepare project proposals, interim and final reports (narrative and financial) in collaboration with the country office and HQ for the submission to donors and country office/ HQ
ensure coordination of nutrition related services by regular meetings (cluster meetings) with partner NGOs/ INGOS and Government Departments
represent Johanniter International when liaising with authorities, in meetings with other NGOs, International Organisations, donors etc.
coordinate with other technical departments at coordination level (food security, livelihood, water, sanitation and hygiene, logistics and administration)
compile upon request reports, updates and articles for the marketing and fundraising department

The nutrition co-ordinator needs to hold a University Degree in Nutrition and/ or Public Health/ Medicine, or equivalent superior education

3-5 years technical experience of working in the field of nutrition – preferably in a Muslim context
Proven experience in nutrition/ health project coordination, especially financial management and administration
Networking and coordination with partners
Experience in security management in high risk areas
Experience in the region is an asset

Human Resource management and supervision
Situation analysis and stress management
Management, project planning and organizational skills
Analytical, written and oral communication skills
Ability to work in a remote location in an unstable security environment
Cultural sensitivity
Fully computer literate
Fluency in English required, knowledge of German and/ or Urdu is a strong asset
Experience in report writing
Experience in training arrangement
Good knowledge of international standards and relief tools for an acute emergency (e.g. the Sphere Standards)

Terms and Conditions
Duration: 1 year contract with possible extension

Start of contract: 1st January 2012

Remuneration: Salary range according to the ARV-J regulations approx. 3.200 € depending on qualification and experience. Per diem of 20 € per day in the field
